Tanya Miller

Co-Ordinator and Lecturer, Animal Management

Hi, I am Tanya the Course Co-Ordinator and a Lecturer in Animal Management. I will be teaching you a range of small and domestic animal care modules to help you to learn what animals need and the practical skills to care for them.

I will teach you how to handle a range of animals both at Highlands and at the JSPCA. In the first year we will spend time at the JSPCA each week to care for the animals and support their wonderful work. You will also have the opportunity to go on visits, handle a range of animal species and conduct wildlife surveys. I am a registered veterinary nurse and have spent time working in practices both here in Jersey and in the UK, I have also trained in Canine Rehabilitation and Hydrotherapy.

Having a clinical background enables me to support learners to understand the health requirements of animals, spot signs of ill health and gain knowledge of basic first aid. Through the wealth of experience our lecturers hold at the college you will be able to access information that can support you in a wide range of career paths and an enriched future working with animals. I really look forward to meeting you in September and wish you all the best of luck with your GCSE’s.

Hi, I’m Sarah, Lecturer and first year personal tutor on Animal Management. My area of focus within this course is on animal biology looking at both pet and wild examples in lessons and taking this information out of the classroom.

During my lessons we’ll also be exploring the wider conservation concepts, looking at local examples to get involved in practicals. You’ll be testing out your knowledge of nutrition with practical feeding activities with our college animals and Jersey Zoo exotics. Through adding links with local and international charities we’ll help get you networking from the get-go to progress your career working with animals.
